Remember when Richard Pryor predicted that many black people will lose their cars and be forced to ride bicycles and scooters ... "and anyTHING else that will move!" Well, we now see how true that is.
I live in Oakland, California where economic racism is forcing blacks WAAYYY out to places like Antioch and Concord so that whites can again reclaim and gentrify the inner city. It's sad to see how little (or no) imagination is left in the black community. Reading too much "Vibe" and watching rap videos I guess....
So, I conclude that it really is later than you think. While brothers (and sisters) are running around trying to be black-white men and loving everything but themselves, I see:
1.) The people (Mexicans) who are currently picking cotton, will become middle class
2. ) Those "true to Thug Life" will be forced into work prisons and they (or their children) will actually be picking cotton AGAIN!
You WATCH!
California (and many other states) the black dollar has been written off. New Rome (America) is most likely now the world's third largest economy. Many feared the day this would happen because they worried that many other mult-nationals would pull their money out. (That's what all that ... "put your social security into the stock market" was about...)
Plus, the recent Sub Prime Mortgage debacle gives rise to the old rumors about a possible Global Recession. (We already know that there will be a Global Water Shortage sometimes before 2014.)
So ... what do black folk do? Work together to purchase farmland and relearn how to work, live and love each other again? No ...
We still got people running around demanding Reparations. Everybody is bringing a covered dish to New Rome's sinking table and the political choice the Michael Vick's in our community can come up with is to demand a free ride?
Will the children of the people who walked out of African and peopled the world ... once again be reduced to picking cotton??

I wont blame anyone for what is wrong with our community other then us. Yes there are plenty of things that work against us, but we need to PUSH BACK as a community. The strong community I know we really are.
Blacks make up now 52% of the homeless population. What are we doing about it? NOT A DAMN THING. Churches stand by while we lose our homes and jobs. They wont help, they are only interested in taking our money. The NAACP also does nothing for our community. So when what use to be the strong towers of hope and faith are of no help to us, where do we turn? Each other? Guess again. We are own our own because we are too busy becoming just like the people we say do so much to us that we dont even see out own Ma suffering and in need of help. We race by our homeless cousins to get to some damn church to hear the gay pastor tell yoi how sinful your life is.
We are to blame for what is taking palce in our community because all we do is say what "the man" is doing while we sit back and do far worse.

Get off the Titanic before the last lifeboat sails away. Like Fred has said; liquidate everything you can; leave the dying cities and relocate in locales where the cost of land is minimal and subsistence can be made from the land. In the later days of the dying/declining cities; we can make a decent living from "niche" agriculture and small scale manufacture/crafts. Bank that money in hard currency, collectivize and be prepared to ride out the 15 to 30 years of economic "realignment".
Or we can stay where we are and watch the lights go out and have to fight the rats and roaches for the last crusts of bread. Meanwhile our "Emergency Powers" government will "organize" the Permanent Emergency with a blurring of the lines between prison and the society run under martial law.
I don't know about you but in Oklahoma where Fred is based now 15 acres of farmland with a 3 bedroom house standing on it can be had for as little as $11,000. That is full price not down payment. Similar bargains can be had in more than20 states. If you have any family members vested in municipal pensions in the eastern cities, they can cash out and buy several of these parcels; forming a family agribiz and have significant operating capital to sustain themselves. Of course there will be culture shock with this sort of relocation, but the alternative is a nightmared during a cataclysm. -

I love where I live and Iam not moving PERIOD. -

Then brother if things stay good for you there its a blessing. If things go bad come on an join those of us who are becoming bioregionalists. Throughout all of human history; the great migrations and evacuations were made up of people who said, "I love where I live and Iam not moving PERIOD." Sometimes shyte happens.

That shit only happens when you run and dont plan well. My family has long been a MAJOR part of Santa Monica and we ALWAYS will. We control over 98 lots on property here in Santa Monica and more LA. I myself already own 3 spots myself. Quiters pick up and run and then blame others for their lack of will to see things through. Like I said, I AINT MOVING NO PLACE PERIOD.
They may have loved where they lived, but they had no real stake in the area. So you just keep on moving and moving and moving and wak up one day and you've moved your ass around so much you have NOTHING.

Just because your ship is sinking Al, doesnt mean the rest our ships are in danger. Instead of running and trying to get others to run with you, why not change yourself and stop pointing and blaming YOUR situation on others.
Kengi's family is the oldest black families in Santa Monica. They are a mainstay in that community, they own land there, hold elected offices there. His family gives more of their own money to help our people then anyone I know. Each year they give out 100 scholarships to families who might not otherwise have a chance at going to any school. Kengi runs a foundation that tries to help homeless people, low income families and seniors and 95% of the money spent is his own. Why should he or anyone for that matter pick up and run simply because things get tough?
Running doesn’t solve your problem Al. Facing them head on does. Running is just running and once you stop running, the things you though you were running from, you’ve taken with you.

"That shit only happens when you run and dont plan well."
Jews in Germany in the 1930s, Albanians in Ottoman Turkey in the 1910s, American Citizens of Japanese ancestry all over the west coast in 1942, American Citizens of Diasporic African ancestry in towns they had settled in the 1880s, all felt that way. There were Neisei (Japanese-Americans) who owned considerably more than your family holdings who wound up in Manzanar. My family owned over 12000 acres of land in Texas and Oklahoma until the 1930s; when our faith in our white neighbors (of over 60 years) proved to be misplaced.
The equivalent of over 1 billion dollars in 2005 funds was lost by Blacks who planned well in the destruction of the "Black Wall St." in the white riots in Tulsa in 1921 (see link: www.montgomerycollege.edu/Depar...html). Standing your ground and planning well are good traits, but when the Hurricane begins to blow, its time to move inland.
Kengi, we have had misunderstandings in the past. I respect your work with the homeless very much. I salute the loyal support of your friends particularly Queen Cindy, and Sanctuary. However I don't think that you listen very well. I have come to believe that you tend to react first and contemplate later. Both Fred and I look at things from a perspective that you and your friends may come to in 20 or 30 years. I say this with no intention to patronize you. I do however suggest that you reread your comments made to Fred and really look at whether or not you are responding to what he has actually said or your feeling upon your first cursory examination of his comments.
In the end we are still an extended family. I sincerely hope that you will never be disturbed in your environs. But if it does ever come to that I am sure that both Fred and I would welcome you into our new communities; as we will all brothers and sisters who are proactive and commited to our family.

Fred
You sound like many blacks who just sit back and blame. Do something to chage your situation, then you wont have to be like Al and run away all the time.
Blaming people who have NO POWER doesnt change the fact that YOU and only YOU have the power to chage things for yourself. -
-
Al ... they can't hear us. They don't even understand the words we're saying. Let's hope that this is something that everyone isn't being called to. (That's my high dream.) God always uses the few. (We also know that most people are blinded to The Spirt.)
Queen (can't see your full name and i don't have time to click on your profile and ... apparently you didn't click on mine.) Baby girl ... I spent the last 19 years in the trenches finding solutions for people. Still doing it. Click on my so-called blog here and see if you can find a link to my "Black Solutions" blog.
Now ... if we're making rash assumptions ... YOU sound like someone who is in DEEP denial and is afraid of change.
I ain't blaming these 'po powerless black folks ... I'm sounding the alarm for us to GET some NEW ... more spiritually-based power. I and Al are older than most of you. Probably all. There's a reason we're writing what we're writing. We've seen some things ... been through some things ... and we know that the only constant is change.
Al is in now way a sinking ship partner. These messages aren't for everyone. If you're on a fast track to your 1st dreams and everything looks good for you in urban America ... then go for it. If not ... or if you know someone who is struggling ... let them know that now is the time to make some very radical changes. All the cards been played.
Oh baby ... you aren't reading very deeply. "Do something???" I've radically changed my life and I'm loving it ... making paper and walking into my organic farming dreams ... which is just the tip of the iceberg ... but I can't give you all the game ... you wouldn't be able to understand it if -

I don't know, here on tribe, you come across a lot of apocalyptic doomsday scenarios, some proclaiming a new age of sweetness and light, others a burning nazi hell-world. It's hard to know who to believe, if any of them at all.
What is obvious is that there is an enormous DESIRE for change in a lot of people, and I think it goes beyond just the personal choices people make in the everyday lives, there seems to be a desire for a whole new way of looking at the world, a new paradigm, a new reality.
I used to be on the apocalyptic side, and thought that imminent doom was just around the corner, but recently, I don't know why it is, the evidence of my own life certainly doesn't warrant it, but nevertheless, I've become very optimistic about the future in general. I don't know why. It's sort of the McLuhan idea of "breakdown as breakthrough", that is, sometimes it's hard to solve a problem in terms of itself, or see things as they really are when you're stuck in the middle of it, and it's only when there is a sort of insoluble problem that you're forced to move into new directions. If anything, I think that may be what's going on. -

Never say, "Never" my young brother.
I am really shocked by Tulsa. Oklahoma (of ALL places) got some QUALITY babes. (Sisters that is... well ... this is 2007 here too and you can date whomever you want ... but I'm really pleasantly surprised at these sistas!)
Black Wall Street was here ... this is where they killed and burned down an affulent black community back in the early days of the "Roaring 20's. Traveling around, I keep meeting up with folks who are soooo ready to change, grow and work on something together. Ripe place this "Greenwood."
The only constant is change. If you can hang in there and keep yer nuts outta the sand where you are (LA isn't it?) then go for it. (But I'm telling you .. unless you get your own thing going and keep adding degrees, the non-profit game is a no-win game that will leave you with nothing. We all been through that one way before you came on the sceen blood ... I put in over 17 years before I let go ... but hey ... they need another "true believer" willing to work on saving the world ... spinning wheels doing everything be being actually effective, so ... good luck. (One more question before I sign off ... 'cause you actually look like a cool brother ... but ... blood ... do you ACTUALLY think this government is going to dish out some cash to a non-profit that will actually CHANGE something? ... sorry ... had to laugh ...)
Don't hang on too long. Look for your own dreams and rescue your damn self my brother. If you don't, it will mean you might have some "Fear of Change" going on. (smile) -

Just so you know Fred.
I have two degrees. I have owned my business since I was 19 years old. 95% of my foundation is funed by ME. The rest is of my foundation is funded through friends and family. I started my foundation to HELP people, not to make money. So maybe your focus for 17 years was wrong.
Yes I do live in LA and the last time I checked this wasnt the 20's.
Stop giving white folks all this power they dont have. It's beneath you. -
-
Kudos my brother. So ... it isn't all about you, eh?
When was I a victim giving "white folks all the power??" I'm tiring to bring up different solutions of self and community empowerment. I could make some silly comments about a foundation ...but WHY??
This isn't a competition ... and it isn't about me nor you. If you're a star ... then go on and shine my brothaaa ... but don't cast no shadow on me or people who think differently than you do. Just hear us out ... take what you can and leave the rest.
Oh ... and ... my young brother ... I'm an old brother with several degrees too. Word: "Everything changes." You can bank on it. If you're up today ... blood ... hold onto your hat ... 'cause life will eventually throw a monkey wrench into the works ... and at that time ... hope you got God aNd a Plan A and a Plan B.
So ... let's keep talking about ideas, eh? I'll try to keep my ego out of it ... and hope you do too. (smile)

Let the Chapterhouse say Aum Aun one time!!!
Fred, I soooo resonate with your sentiments. I used to rush home and hang on my wall of Ego, every, Diploma, Certificate, License, Award, Celebrity Photo, I received. I eventually wound up with 3 walls in my den covered with frames and plaques. I had 2 display cases for trophies. I belonged to the most erudite and infandous of Procrustean Captatiocracies, soley for the fastuous tetricity inveighed by membership within. My Ego was swollen but my Spirit was fustigated by the mephitic procacity of it.
I also felt that any concept that was not already within the tenure of my mentation was unimportant and irrelevant. I believed that my nativistic superiority in all matters cerebal, provided me with a guarantee that my outcomes would always be congruent with my Ego's projections. It sure is funny how the Universe will slap that silly shit out of you. I was given a wonderful scholarship to the Universe's Survival School. In it I learned that those who cannot separate themselves from their misconceved notions, will drown when immersed in reality. LOL Of course this is a good thing since those of us who have learned this lesson; get to enjoy all of their goodies when they wash up on shore. He he he.
I sure don't see either of us as victims giving "white folks all the power!!" Of course that is a verrryy facile judgement to make, when one lacks the insight and context of having been sorely tried by life and survived. We are of course both at the age of tolerance, which we have achieved through agonies and grieving. Nothing else will ever teach it to you. That is why so many people like G.W. Bush lack it and will never have it. Their lives have been shielded and sheltered from any pain or regret.
As I approach 60 I get more and more insight into the human condition and the subset of that condition which we as Diasporic Africans have experienced. I have learned some thing about the Ego that I wish to share. Of course some people who are fully vested in their egos will fail to learn from these aphorism, and will instead see this as an attack on their perceptions. Such unfortunately is the condition of Youth. It is a wonderful thing, though that Youth is a self-correcting condition.
Please reflect upon these:
Lao Tzu has said in the Hua Hu Ching:
Section 9: "He who desires the admiration of the world will do well to amass a great fortune and then give it away. The world will respond with admiration in proportion to the size of his treasure. Of course, this is meaningless. Stop striving after admiration. Place your esteem on the Tao. Live in accord with it, share with others the teachings that lead to it, and you will be immersed in the blessings that flow from it."
And also in Section 10: " The ego is a monkey catapulting through the jungle: Totally fascinated by the realm of the senses, it swings from one desire to the next, one conflict to the next, one self-centered idea to the next. If you threaten it, it actually fears for its life. Let this monkey go. Let the senses go. Let desires go. Let conflicts go. Let ideas go. Let the fiction of life and death go. Just remain in the center, watching. And then forget that you are there."
Hazrat Inayat Khan (the Father of Sufiism) said, "There is one Truth the true knowledge of our being, within and without, which is the essence of Wisdom." He also said, "There is one Path; the effacement of the limited self in the Unlimited, which raises the mortal to immortality, in which resides all Perfection."
Finally Lao Tzu (among other Ascended Masters) gives the curative for Ego, " Can you dissolve your ego? Can you abandon the idea of self and other? Can you relinquish the notions of male and female, short and long, life and death? Can you let go of all these dualities and embrace the Tao without skepticism or panic? If so, you can reach the heart of the Integral Oneness. Along the way, avoid thinking of the Oneness as unusual, exalted, sublime, transcendental. Because it is the Oneness, it is beyond all that. It is simply the direct, essential, and complete truth." He also gives a formula for living with other beings, which will enlighten any who pursue it, "To the ordinary being, others often require tolerance. To the mature being, there is no such thing as tolerance, because there is no such thing as other. She has given up all ideas of individuality and extended her goodwill without prejudice in every direction. Never hating, never resisting, never contesting, she is simply always learning and being. Loving, hating, having expectations: all these are attachments. Attachment prevents the growth of one's true being. Therefore the integral being is attached to nothing and can relate to everyone with an unstructured attitude. Because of this, her very existence benefits all things. You see, that which has form is equal to that which is without form, and that which is alive is equal to that which rests. This is the subtle truth, not a religious invention, but only those who are already mature will understand this. "
